For us, it’s about knowing what lens to use when that makes our films so powerful. Each lens changes the way to tell the story. I won’t get into too many details, rather just show you a simple example of 2 different lenses, shooting the same shot, each creating a very unique feel.

But there are two very distinct things you should NOT skimp on. Your photographer and videographer. A lot of brides are foregoing a videographer to try and save money. It really is not worth all the memories that you will miss.

This is the first part of a series of posts describing how Vivid Wedding Films puts together a Same Day Wedding edit.

One of the things we love most about producing wedding films is the story behind each couple. Good visuals, lighting and audio are very important, but if you can’t tell a story, then your film won’t add up to much.

We pride ourselves on being great story-tellers at every level of the production. It begins with the way we film – what you capture through your lens is much like the “ideas and words” authors use to tell stories. While filming, we’re already beginning to think about the edit and how we’ll tell the story – and without a doubt, each story is unique. Being able to see the story unfold before us is what separates us from a lot of wedding videographers.

Editing a Same Day Edit + Love Story is sort of like reverse-engineering the story – or edit. After interviewing the couple, we begin to piece together their story, while thinking about how it will integrate with shots from their actual wedding day. As you can see in the photo below, we leave “gaps” in the story for which images and audio from the day will occupy.

For us, this is the fun part: not knowing exactly how the story will unfold and being flexible enough to alter any ideas we had going into the day. As we lead up to Meredith and Mark’s Same Day Edit, June 19th, we’ll be passing along more insight into the process of “telling their story” using the Same Day Edit + Love Story.

The sun is finally starting to shine here and our sleepy little town of Eugene is waking up from a season of slumber. In their up-coming issue, Oregon Bride Magazine is featuring Eugene, Oregon as an amazing place to be married, from scenic landscapes to a great variety of wedding services.

Last Friday, Todd and I make a quick trip over to Central Oregon to produce a promotional video for a new wedding site near Sunriver, Oregon. 

Ghost Rock Ranch is a unique location with plenty of charm, a dose of the “cowboy” feel and some amazing views. We’d highly recommend this site for anyone looking to Bend as a destination wedding. Taken from their website, here’s a few amenities offered at Ghost Rock Ranch:

I’m pretty passionate about video. Its power to preserve the sights and sounds of an event should be enough to convince anyone to use it. But often times it’s not. I came across this article that discusses how video has changed and will change in the coming years. Check it out.

“Imagine your dad, decked out in a tux and with his glass raised, delivering a toast that leaves you and most of your guests reaching for the hankies. Your photographer will snap the pics to preserve the moment, but after the champagne glasses clink together, Dad’s words are only a memory — unless you have them on film. Wedding videography captures the sights and the sounds of your day, evoking a feeling and portraying the day’s emotion. Your videographer is bound to catch something you missed. The bonus: With digital video — often called DV — becoming the norm, your DVD promises to have a much longer shelf life than a grainy VHS tape. That means future generations will be able to see how Grandma and Grandpa married — even if at that point they have to ask what a “DVD” is.”

It’s been almost 6 years since my wife and I got married. And while I have many memories that will never leave me, most of the day seems such a blur. We did not spend the money to get a professional videographer to capture our day.

We had members of the family randomly using a video camera to capture events here and there, but it didn’t work out so well. At one point, my dad was holding the camera, aimed at the crowd, while he was giving the toast. As much as we laugh about that moment caught on tape, we regret not hiring someone to capture the moments of that special day.

I began filming weddings shortly after we got married and realized that we’d made a mistake in not getting ours filmed. I wanted to make sure others had the opportunity to get their once in a lifetime days captured on film.

My two-year-old son Cade loves watching old home videos. His favorite is “daddy boy” (as he calls it) which consists of old Super-8 films taken of me up until the age of 4 or 5. How cool would it be for him to be able to watch a DVD of his mom and dad getting married?

Our goal is to not only provide couples with with the most creative, thoughtful wedding films around, but also to give them a piece of history they can pass down for generations to come.
